A Child Focused Approach to Parental Dispute Resolution: The Latest Research on 1) Shared Parenting in Canada and 2) Views of the Child Reports.
Speaker: Prof. Nicholas Bala
Join ADRIO and OAFM by webinar or in person at Queen's Law School to hear the latest research findings on Shared Parenting in Canada and Views of the Child Reports.
Dr. Bala collaborates with psychologists, social workers, and other social scientists to better understand the effect of involvement in the justice system on children, youth and families and to help improve outcomes for children and families. He has recently completed two collaborative research studies that have profound implications for family law and dispute resolution professionals who put interests of the child at the core of their practice. How does involving the voice and views of the child impact outcomes for children and youth? What is the latest legal and social research saying about shared parenting arrangements? What are the courts saying?
Nicholas Bala is a leading Canadian expert on family and children's law. He has been a professor at the Faculty of Law at Queen's University since 1980. Scholars and judges from all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada, often cite his work. His contributions to family law research and professional education were recognized in 2009 when he received the Law Society Medal and the Family Excellence Award of the Ontario Bar Association. In 2013, he was elected to be a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.
