ADRIC-RICS Construction Adjudication Training Program 2026: Module 1

FULL COURSE DESCRIPTION:

A comprehensive 45-hour training program, this course is broken into three modules. It is delivered over several months, with Module 3 delivered over four weeks to allow time for study and preparation between sessions.

This course is designed for construction and client organization staff, property developers, lawyers, quantity surveyors, architects, engineers, project managers, and anyone who would benefit from a clear understanding of adjudication. It also provides an ideal networking opportunity for prospective adjudicators as well as party representatives and advocates to meet potential users of adjudication in Canada.

Module 1: Introduction to Adjudication Program

All About Construction Adjudication

A one-day overview of how adjudication works and how to get the best out of it, presented by one of the UK’s most experienced adjudicators on the RICS President’s Panel, Matthew Molloy, and supported by an experienced national Canadian lawyer.

Designed for construction and client organization staff, property developers, lawyers, quantity surveyors, architects, engineers, project managers, and anyone who would benefit from a clear understanding of adjudication.

Module 2: Adjudication Advocate Training Program

Advising and Representing Parties in Adjudications

An intense two-day program designed for prospective adjudication party representatives, counsel, advocates and legal and built environment professionals for whom a more detailed understanding of construction adjudication will be beneficial for their work in advising clients.

It provides participants with a solid understanding of the procedure and law of adjudication. Learn how to collate evidence and prepare written submissions for an adjudication, how to present oral evidence should a hearing be needed, how to manage clients’ expectations, what to do with a decision once delivered, how to get the decision enforced, and what to do if the decision is challenged. It also provides a specific focus on conflicts of interest, ethics, and jurisdictional points that they might need to make on behalf of their clients.

Module 3: The Adjudicator 

A comprehensive 28-hour training program, following the ADRIC-RICS Adjudication Advocate course.

This course is broken into units and is delivered over a couple of weeks to allow time for study and preparation between sessions.

Covering the remaining knowledge and competencies you need to practice as a construction adjudicator, with a specific focus on applicable common and statutory law, adjudication practice, managing the adjudication process and decision writing.

**Dates to be confirmed for January 2027**

Unit 1: 3 sessions plus assessment (time-controlled examination)
Unit 2: 1 session plus online multiple-choice assessment
Unit 3: 3 sessions plus adjudication decision writing assessment

ADRIC Members: $2850 CAD plus applicable taxes
Non-members: $3,000 CAD plus applicable taxes

Certification upon successful completion of Module 3: ADRIC-RICS Certificate in Adjudication

Please note: You must complete Modules 1 and 2 to be eligible for Module 3.

COURSE MATERIALS:

Students are responsible for purchasing the following books before starting Module 3. Portions will need to be read in advance of the course. The full reading list will be provided upon enrollment in Module 3.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CREDITS:

  • Eligible for ADRIC Continuing Education & Engagement (CEE) points
  • CPD accreditation pending from law societies and other professional bodies
